Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers, in a heartfelt moment, visited the Mumbai Wheelchair Cricket Team. He delighted the fans by joining the team during a practice session.
AB de Villiers had a heartwarming day as part of the ‘Project Mumbai’ initiative. He joined the Mumbai Wheelchair Cricket Team for a practice session at Islam Gymkhana in Marine Lines.
De Villiers arrived in India this week to support his former team Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2025. RCB qualified for the final after defeating Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1. The final will be played on June 3 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
De Villiers visited the Mumbai Wheelchair Cricket Team at Islam Gymkhana. Besides interacting with them, he also sat in a wheelchair and played with them. The gesture delighted the fans and the players. The crowd present there recorded the special moments.
The legendary batter came to Mumbai to show his support for a touching initiative. Project Mumbai is a volunteer driven initiative that encourages people to give back to the city. De Villiers offered his services at various locations in the city. A civic school in Malabar Hill was one of his destinations for the day. He helped in painting classrooms for the students.
AB de Villiers has shown his support for RCB throughout the IPL 2025 season. Earlier this month, he even promised the team that he would come to India and cheer for them in person if they make it to the finals.
“Mark my words, if RCB makes it to the final, I will be there at the stadium with the boys. Nothing will give me more pleasure than to lift that trophy with Virat Kohli. I’ve tried that for many, many years,” said de Villiers during an Instagram Live session.
