Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi is known for his unique “tick the notebook” celebration in IPL 2025. But ahead of their final league match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he made it clear that he will not celebrate in the same way if he dismisses Virat Kohli.
Before the match, fans gathered around Digvesh and asked, “Agla number kiska?” meaning “Whose name is next?” The crowd immediately shouted Virat Kohli’s name. Digvesh simply smiled and shook his head. This small gesture showed that he did not want to mark Kohli’s name in his imaginary notebook.
The match between LSG and RCB is the only time these two teams will face each other in IPL 2025. They are in different groups, and LSG have already been knocked out of playoff contention. This game is Digvesh’s first and only chance this season to bowl to Kohli.
Digvesh has taken 14 wickets in 12 matches with an economy rate of 8.19. His bowling style is similar to Sunil Narine, with a fast run-up and high-arm action. But his celebration has made more headlines than his bowling.
After taking a wicket, Digvesh pretends to tick the batter’s name in a notebook. This act has led to two fines and even a one-match suspension. In a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he ticked Abhishek Sharma’s name and got into an argument with him. The IPL match referee marked this as his third Level 1 offence, which led to five demerit points and a ban.
In an earlier video posted by LSG, teammate Nicholas Pooran asked Digvesh why he does the notebook celebration. Digvesh replied, “Because I am from Delhi.”
This playful but bold personality has won him both fans and critics. But when it comes to a player like Kohli, Digvesh has chosen respect over showmanship.
