Renowned coach and analyst Nazmul Abedin Fahim has announced his intention to prepare a guideline aimed at reforming the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Fahim, who has served the BCB in various capacities for 14 years, expressed his concerns regarding the board’s internal discipline and overall effectiveness.

A Need for Change

Speaking to reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Fahim stated, “I don’t think the BCB is a particularly disciplined organization. From the outside, it might seem like the BCB is an excellent organization because of its outward glamour.” He criticized the board for not capitalizing on opportunities and for making intentional mistakes that have hindered the growth of cricket in the country.

Fahim emphasized that addressing internal indiscipline is crucial for resolving many of the crises facing Bangladesh cricket. “If a process is in place, why wouldn’t we perform well in cricket? We shouldn’t be overly thrilled about winning against Nepal, but that’s what has happened,” he remarked, highlighting the need for a more structured approach.

Leadership and Accountability

Fahim placed significant responsibility on the leadership of the BCB, asserting that strong leadership is essential for the board’s success. “If the leadership is strong, everything else falls into place naturally,” he noted. He called for a board led by individuals with vision and big dreams, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability.

He further criticized current board directors, suggesting that their personal agendas have led to the downfall of cricket in Bangladesh. “We’ve witnessed the downfall of cricket. Whether it’s club cricket or the entire sport, it has been severely damaged,” he stated.

Drafting the Reform Guidelines

Nazmul Abedin Fahim has already drafted a guideline for reform, which he plans to submit in the coming days. He is in touch with several cricketers and veteran organizers who share his vision for change within the BCB. “It’s not about me. For those who truly care about cricket, and consider how cricket represents Bangladesh on the global stage, there’s no room for shortcuts here,” he emphasized.

Fahim believes that involving capable individuals, both domestically and internationally, is vital for the advancement of Bangladesh cricket. He expressed his readiness to meet with the advisors of the interim government to discuss potential reforms, stating, “If there’s an opportunity to provide input, I would definitely participate.”

The BCB is currently navigating a transitional phase, with its leadership under scrutiny as several directors have fled the country due to political pressures. As the cricket board prepares to meet with Asif Mahmud, the youth and sports advisor of the interim government, discussions surrounding the upcoming women’s T20 World Cup are also on the agenda.
