The IPL 2025 has been suspended indefinitely amid the conflicts between India and Pakistan. This decision came after PBKS vs DC match was cancelled due to safety issues.

The Indian Premier League has reportedly been suspended amid security concerns after the military escalations between India and Pakistan. The development was made after the cancellation of the 58th fixture between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala. The venue is located 100 kilometres from Pathankot, where air raid alerts were sounded. This caused the BCCI to take the call on IPL suspension.

“We have decided to indefinitely suspend the IPL. The players’ safety is our utmost priority. Hence, we decided to stop the tournament for now. We’ll decide later if and when the tournament can resume. Right now, national interest is of utmost importance,” sources in the BCCI told the newspaper.

Safety Concerns in Dharamsala

The match in Dharamsala, which was already delayed due to rain, was suddenly stopped when floodlights in the stadium went out. The incident was intially believed to be technical glitch, but the situation escalated when the players and match officials were informed about the raid alerts.

A player told the Indian Express that players were panicking after learning about the situation. The overseas cricketers, in particular, were worried about their safety. Australian media had earlier reported that their players had expressed concern over their safety and were ready to return home.

The players and the crowd in Dharamsala were evacuated for safety reasons. Fans were heard shouting anti-Pakistan slogans while on their way out of the stadium. After the incident, BCCI kept monitoring the evolving situation and told PTI that the decision to continue the league had not been made.

Tension Between India and Pakistan

The Indian Armed Forces, in the early hours of Wednesday, launched a precision missile strike on nine terror targets in Pakistan. This strike came in retaliation for the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which took the lives of 26 civilians.

On May 8, Pakistan launched an attack on several Indian cities along the border, including Jammu and Pathankot, and areas of Punjab and Rajasthan. These attacks were neutralised by the Indian Armed Forces.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan announced that the remainder of the Pakistan Super League would be shifted to the UAE.
