According to reports from PTI, reliable IPL sources have revealed that overseas players want to head home as soon as possible.
The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) adopted the wait-and-watch policy regarding the IPL’s continuation. However, many overseas players participating in the ongoing IPL season have shown concern, requesting to fly back home.
“Reliable IPL sources have revealed that foreign recruits want to head home at the earliest,” reported news agency PTI. The news came hours after the PBKS vs DC fixture in Dharamsala was abandoned midway after raid alerts in neighbouring cities.
There are many foreign players, staff members, match officials, and broadcasters associated with IPL. The PBKS vs DC match, which was stopped midway, included 8 overseas cricketers playing and many as part of their squads.
“We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven’t received any directive from the government. Obviously, the decision will be taken keeping all the logistics in mind,” IPL chairman Arun Dhumal told PTI when asked whether the league will continue amid the conflict.
Punjab Kings were 122 for 1 in 10.1 overs when the lights went out. The teams and spectators were then evacuated from the stadium for their security. With the cancellation of this match, it is unclear whether the league will proceed further.
India launched missile strikes on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. On Thursday, a blackout was imposed in numerous districts amid air raid alarms and reports of explosion-like sounds in Jammu.
IPL’s schedule was already disrupted as the May 11 game between PBKS and MI has been moved to Mumbai.
