Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill seemingly ignored Rishabh Pant during the customary handshake after the GT vs LSG fixture on Thursday. Fans speculated that there was tension between the two during the post match proceedings.
Lucknow Super Giants defeated Gujarat Titans by 33 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 22. This defeat hurt Gujarat’s chances of getting in the top two to give themselves two chances of making it to the final.
After the match, Gill appeared to walk past Pant during the customary handshake. The LSG captain looked eager to talk to Gill, however Gill quickly moved to the next player. Pant looked back in his direction as if he was still mid-sentence.
The awkward moment was spotted by the fans, many users online speculated the interaction as Gill ignoring Pant. Meanwhile, some users said that it was a friendly exchange between the two.
Frustrated with their loss, Gill stated that they ended up giving 20-30 extra runs and that’s what cost them the match.
“We gave 15-20 runs extra. Wanted to stop them around 210. Huge difference between 210 and 230. We bowled well in the powerplay, didn’t get any wickets but after the powerplay in the 14 overs they scored around 180 runs which was a lot.
Lucknow’s batting got a splendid start with Mitchell Marsh smashing a 117 off 64 balls, featuring two sixes and three fours. Nicholas Pooran unbeaten 56 off 27 furthered their innings to 235/2.
In response, Gujarat started well too, with Jos Buttler slamming two fours and as many sixes in one over. But LSG’s Will O’Rourke stopped GT by claiming 3 wickets. Shahrukh Khan’s 57 off 29 went in a losing cause for Gujarat.
With this loss, GT missed their chance to book their place in the top two but they can still do so by winning against CSK.
