Virat Kohli gave fans a lighthearted and memorable moment during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 clash against SunRisers Hyderabad. The match was held at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on May 23. During a strategic timeout in RCB’s innings, Kohli’s reaction to batting coach Dinesh Karthik caught everyone’s attention.

RCB were chasing a daunting target of 232. Kohli led from the front, smashing 42 runs off 22 balls. Alongside Phil Salt, he took RCB to 72/0 at the end of the powerplay. That’s when the timeout was taken.

A Calm Exchange During a High-Pressure Game

Dinesh Karthik, now serving as RCB’s mentor and batting coach, joined Kohli and Salt on the field. He was seen offering suggestions with animated gestures. Kohli listened attentively, nodding repeatedly with a relaxed smile. The moment went viral as fans appreciated the mutual respect between the two experienced campaigners.

Although no audio from the conversation was available, Kohli’s body language reflected calm and trust. His repeated nods suggested agreement with Karthik’s tactics.

Kohli Dismissed, RCB Collapse After Strong Start

Just after the break, Kohli departed in the seventh over for 43 (25). His dismissal handed SRH a crucial breakthrough. At 173/3 in the 16th over, RCB looked well in the chase. But they suffered a sudden collapse, losing seven wickets for just 16 runs.

They were bowled out for 189 in 19.5 overs. SRH won by 42 runs and boosted their playoff hopes. RCB, meanwhile, dropped to third place in the standings.

Jitesh Sharma: “Losing a good game is a very good sign”

RCB’s stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma remained upbeat despite the loss. Speaking at the presentation, he said:

“Losing a good game is a very good sign. It’ll give a good opportunity to set things straight before the playoffs.”

He praised SRH’s performance and said they scored “20 or 30 runs more than what we would’ve thought.” Reflecting on his own team’s effort, he added:

“The break didn’t help, we were rusty. The intensity was missing.”

Crucial Match Ahead for RCB

RCB’s final league match is against Lucknow Super Giants on May 27, again in Lucknow. A win there is vital for their playoff hopes. Fans will look to Kohli once again to deliver in a pressure game.
