ICC World Cup in India: Umpiring Panel Unveiled - Meet the Officiating Team

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the list of match officials who will officiate during the league stage of the upcoming Cricket World Cup. This distinguished group comprises 16 umpires and four match referees, with the officials for the semi-finals and final set to be announced later during the tournament.

Emirates Elite Panel Umpires

Among the esteemed officials, 12 belong to the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires. These experienced umpires include Christopher Gaffaney (New Zealand), Kumar Dharmasena (Sri Lanka), Marais Erasmus (South Africa), Michael Gough (England), Nitin Menon (India), Paul Reiffel (Australia), Richard Illingworth (England), Richard Kettleborough (England), Rodney Tucker (Australia), Joel Wilson (West Indies), Ahsan Raza (Pakistan), and Adrian Holdstock (South Africa).

ICC Emerging Umpire Panel

The remaining four umpires hail from the ICC Emerging Umpire Panel. This promising group comprises Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid (Bangladesh), Paul Wilson (Australia), Alex Wharf (England), and Chris Brown (New Zealand).

Notably, this group includes three umpires who officiated in the thrilling Cricket World Cup 2019 final. These veterans are Kumar Dharmasena, Marais Erasmus, and Rodney Tucker. However, Aleem Dar, who also officiated in the 2019 final, will not be a part of this year’s World Cup as he stepped down from the Elite Panel earlier this year.

Elite Panel of Match Referees

The Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees for the tournament comprises former international players Jeff Crowe (New Zealand), Andy Pycroft (Zimbabwe), Richie Richardson (West Indies), and Javagal Srinath (India).

The officials for the tournament opener between England and New Zealand on October 5 have been announced. Kumar Dharmasena and Nitin Menon will serve as the on-field umpires, while Paul Wilson will be the TV umpire. Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid will take on the role of the fourth umpire, with Andy Pycroft serving as the match referee.

Confidence in the Officiating Team

ICC Senior Manager – Umpires and Referees, Sean Easey, expressed confidence in the officiating team for the Cricket World Cup. He believes that this group of officials is prepared to handle the challenging task with the global cricketing community closely watching their decisions.

ICC General Manager – Cricket, Wasim Khan, praised the assembled group of umpires, referees, and emerging officials, noting that they would bring immense skill, experience, and world-class standards to the World Cup. He Apso commended the inclusion of ICC Emerging Panel members in the event.
