Team India is gearing up for a high-stakes encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan in the Super 4s of the Asia Cup 2023. However, the threat of rain looms over the match, with Colombo experiencing consistent rainfall. This unfavorable weather has raised concerns about the possibility of a full game, reminiscent of the last encounter between the two teams that was abandoned after just one inning.
In preparation for the crucial clash, the Indian team took to the indoor nets in Colombo. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared images of the players practicing indoors, indicating that the outdoor practice was hindered by the persistent rain. This indoor session was a proactive measure taken to ensure that the players were well-prepared for any eventualities due to the weather.
The Asia Cup 2023 has been plagued by rain interruptions, leading to concerns about the tournament’s smooth progression. The clash between India and Pakistan holds immense significance in the Super 4s stage, and fans are eagerly hoping for uninterrupted cricketing action.
The Pakistani cricket team, currently ranked World No. 1, has been on an impressive winning streak. They recently secured victories in a bilateral series against Afghanistan, defeating them 3-0. Pakistan has also notched wins against Nepal and Bangladesh in the Asia Cup, with their game against India being the only one washed out due to rain. Pakistan aims to strengthen its chances of qualifying for the final with a victory in the Super 4 clash against India.
Despite the rain threat, Pakistan stands at the top of the points table in the Super 4s. Even if all Super 4 matches are washed out, Pakistan is poised to qualify for the final. India is expected to secure its place as the second finalist, given their higher ranking compared to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, who are also part of the Super 4s. However, both lower-ranked teams, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, possess the potential to cause upsets on their day, adding an element of unpredictability to the tournament.
