Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has expressed his thoughts on Virat Kohli’s Test cricket retirement after his fiery knock against SRH. Sehwag believes that Virat could have played for a couple more years.
The former legendary batter Virender Sehwag has spoken out about Virat Kohli’s retirement from the red-ball format once again. As per Sehwag, the former Indian captain called off his test career early. Virat’s stunning 43 off 25 knock backed Sehwag’s belief that the batter could have played at his best for at least two more years.
Despite RCB’s defeat against SRH on Friday, Virat stood out for his 43 run innings from 25 balls, featuring 7 fours and 1 six. They were ultimately bowled out for 189, falling 42 runs short of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s big total of 231 for 6.
Virat’s splendid innings made Sehwag’s conviction about Virat’s fitness and ability to play tests more strong.
“Definitely. I feel he retired too early from the Test format. He could’ve played easily for two years, the way he maintains fitness. But only Virat Kohli can tell the reasons behind the decision. It’s a player’s personal decision based on his will, or whether he feels exhausted,” Sehwag said.
“But according to me, the way he played, and the way he showed energy, it feels he could’ve easily played for two years.”
The Indian batter’s retirement from the longest format of the game shocked the cricketing scene. He ended his brilliant career with 9,230 runs across 123 test matches. The former India captain’s retirement came after Rohit Sharma’s retirement just before the five-Test match series against England.
