Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has made a significant appointment in their quest for IPL glory, naming English cricket administrator Mo Bobat as their Director of Cricket for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Bobat will step into this role, taking over from former New Zealand cricketer Mike Hesson, who, along with head coach Sanjay Bangar, departed after RCB’s disappointing performance in IPL 2023.

Bobat’s Impressive Background

Mo Bobat brings a wealth of experience to RCB, having worked with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) men’s teams for the past 12 years in various capacities. Notably, since 2019, he has served as the team’s Performance Director, overseeing their successes across different formats. His tenure with the ECB included pivotal moments such as multiple Ashes campaigns and World Cup triumphs.

Reflecting on his time with the ECB, Bobat expressed gratitude, saying, “I’ve had the most amazing 12 years at the ECB, and it’s been both an honour and a privilege to have spent the last four years as Performance Director.” He added, “Supporting our efforts towards multiple Ashes campaigns and World Cups has quite literally been the stuff of dreams.”

Joining RCB’s Coaching Staff

While Bobat had previously worked with RCB as a consultant, his new role will see him as a full-time Director of Cricket. He will closely collaborate with RCB’s newly appointed coach, Andy Flower. The partnership between Bobat and Flower goes beyond their current roles, as they previously worked together during their time as colleagues at the ECB.

Prathmesh Mishra, Chairman of RCB, expressed optimism about Bobat’s appointment, highlighting the franchise’s focus on a performance-oriented approach and its commitment to creating a culture that embodies the “playbold” philosophy. Mishra said, “Bobat has already proved what he can do in a similar role with England, and I believe, with the expertise and years of experience, he will guide RCB to newer horizons and excellence.”

Words of Farewell and Best Wishes

Rob Key, England Men’s Managing Director, described Bobat’s transition to RCB as a “bittersweet” moment personally but extended his best wishes. The move marks a significant chapter in Bobat’s career, and his experience is expected to play a pivotal role in reshaping RCB’s strategies and approach as they aim for a successful IPL 2024 campaign.

RCB fans eagerly await the impact of Mo Bobat’s leadership and vision as he takes charge of the franchise’s cricketing operations, with hopes of a brighter future in the IPL.
