In the first innings of the opening Test, Team India’s off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made history when he removed Tagenarine Chanderpaul. In the longest format of the game, he made Indian bowling history by removing the father-and-son combo.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the father of the West Indies‘ current opening batter, Tagenarine, was also dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin. The southpaw was expertly set up by Ashwin. He misread the line and length of an incoming ball that was delivered.
Winning the toss West Indies captain Braithwaite decided to bat first. At lunch, the team is struggling at 68-4 with 2 wickets taken by Ashwin and one each by Shardul and Jadeja. India are in the driver’s seat and will look to wrap up the innings quickly.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan are set to make their Test debuts for India in the first Test match against the West Indies at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica. Jaiswal, representing Mumbai in domestic cricket, and Kishan, who plays for Jharkhand, have been given the opportunity to showcase their skills at the highest level.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma announced the debut of 21-year-old Jaiswal in the pre-match press conference. Sharma revealed that Jaiswal would open the innings for India, with Shubman Gill dropping down to number 3 in the batting order. Jaiswal had previously been part of the reserve squad during the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia.
Jaiswal’s impressive domestic record includes scoring 1845 First-Class runs at an average of 80.21, including nine centuries and two half-centuries. His consistent performances in domestic cricket have earned him this opportunity to represent India in Test cricket.
Ishan Kishan, a wicket-keeper batter, will also be making his Test debut in the same match. Kishan was part of India’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia earlier this year. However, he served as the deputy to Srikar Bharat, who was the first-choice wicket-keeper for the series. Kishan was later added to the WTC squad as a replacement for the injured KL Rahul.
With 2985 First-Class runs to his name at an average of 38.76, including six centuries and 16 fifties, Kishan has shown his potential as a valuable batting asset for India. His skills behind the stumps as a wicketkeeper add further versatility to his game.
