Virat Kohli has opened up about his bond with veteran Indian cricketer Ishant Sharma on a podcast. He said that Ishant is someone he can share anything with.
Former Indian captain Virat Kohli got candid about his connection with his childhood friend and former Indian teammate Ishant Sharma. The two players from Delhi have played together from the age group to the senior level. Both got their international debut around the same time, as Ishant made his debut first, and Virat joining him a year later.
Last year, Kohli and the team lifted the T20 World Cup. Ishant Sharma, who was doing his broadcasting duties, teared up after he witnessed history.
During the podcast Bold and Beyond, hosted by Mayanti Langer, Virat was asked about his friendship with Ishant. He said he can say anything to him without any judgment.
“Ishant is someone I naturally connected with, from Day 1, absolutely nothing has changed, regardless of whether we play together or we don’t play together – I can absolutely share everything with him, without any judgement, with complete understanding and complete empathy. So he is very special individual in my life,” Kohli said in the podcast.
The RCB batter also reacted to Ishant crying, watching him lift the T20 World Cup. He said that Ishant knew what everyone was going through and the value of lifting the trophy.
“Whenever you are connected with someone in a strong way, you can feel what they could be going through and could have gone through. I think that energy reaches everyone. We were all emotional about it because we were trying for so long, there have been a lot of ups and downs,” he added.
The two childhood friends recently caught up before the RCB vs GT clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. They hugged each other and had a chat.
