A case of sexual harassment has been filed at the police station near Chinnaswamy Stadium. The incident took place during the IPL fixture on May 3, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru played against Chennai Super Kings.
An IPS officer’s wife has filed a complaint against a Senior Tax Official and another person for allegedly harassing her daughter and son during the IPL match in Bengaluru. The case was registered after a complaint was lodged at the Cubbon Park Police Station, near the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The argument started when the IPS officer’s daughter left her seat to use the restroom. She left her purse to indicate that the seat was taken. When she returned, she found a man sitting in her seat.
When her brother asked the man to move, the man refused, leading to an argument. The man was then joined by his wife, an income tax official, and his son. They had a heated verbal exchange and used abusive language, with the man arguing directly in her face.
Unable to resolve the matter, the siblings called their parents. While on the way to the stadium, the IPS officer contacted his superiors for assistance. However, when no help arrived, his wife lodged a formal complaint at the Cubbon Park Police Station.
The police stated that at around 9:40 PM on May 3, a fight broke out between two parties. According to the complainant, who is the wife of an IPS officer, the abused were her daughter (26) and son (22).
She said that the couple shouted at and disturbed her kids, and also abused her daughter by behaving indecently. She also said that the entire incident was recorded by her son.
Police reported that one of the suspects involved was an Income Tax Official. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under BNS sections 351(1) ( criminal intimidation), 352 ( intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace) 75(1) (sexual harassment), 79 (criminalizes acts intended to insult a woman’s modesty), police said, adding further investigation.
