Jharkhand’s cricketing star Shahbaz Nadeem has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a remarkable career spanning over two decades. Renowned for his exceptional bowling prowess, Nadeem leaves behind a legacy of over 500 wickets in first-class cricket and impactful performances across various domestic tournaments.
Nadeem made his first-class debut in 2004, etching his name in the record books with over 540 wickets across 140 matches. He emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, showcasing his consistent ability to dismantle batting line-ups. His dominance extended to the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he claimed the highest wicket-taker title in 2018.
Nadeem also holds the record for the best figures in List A cricket, achieving an astounding 8 wickets for just 10 runs against Rajasthan in 2018-19. His consistent performance across formats is further reflected in his impressive tally of over 175 wickets in List A cricket and over 125 wickets in T20s.
Despite his prolific domestic career, Nadeem only managed to secure two Test appearances for India. He made his debut against South Africa in Ranchi in 2019, claiming four wickets. While he featured in another Test match against England in 2021, opportunities on the international stage remained limited.
While Nadeem bids farewell to international cricket, his passion for the game remains undimmed. He intends to shift his focus to T20 leagues around the world, potentially continuing to showcase his skills in shorter formats.
Shahbaz Nadeem’s retirement marks the end of an era for Jharkhand cricket. He leaves behind a legacy of remarkable bowling feats and an inspiration for aspiring cricketers. His dedication and consistent performances have cemented his place as a legend in domestic cricket history.
