Navjot Singh Sidhu, the former Indian cricketer turned politician, is set to return to commentary for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Sidhu is known for his witty one-liners and unique style. He had stepped away from commentary to focus on his political career. Moreover, he joined the BJP in 2004 and contested elections from the Amritsar constituency, holding the seat until 2014.
Despite his successful political career, fans and cricket enthusiasts missed Sidhu’s charismatic presence in the box. Now, after several years, Star Sports has announced that Sidhu will be back to entertain fans during IPL 2024.
Star Sports made the announcement through a social media post, quoting a wise saying, “Hope is the biggest ‘tope'”. This news has been well-received by fans who have been eagerly waiting for Sidhu’s return to the commentary box.
Sidhu began his commentary career in 2001 during India’s tour of Sri Lanka. Known for his witty one-liners, dubbed “Sidhuisms,” he gained popularity for his unique style. Sony Max even launched a website, sidhuisms.com, dedicated to his memorable quotes. Despite a brief stint with ESPN-Star, where he was let go for swearing on air, Sidhu found success with Ten Sports and later returned to ESPN Star Sports in 2012.
He also appeared as a cricket expert on Indian news channels. Sidhu’s commentary extended to the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he commentated for Sony during the 2014 season. Thus sparked a contract dispute with Star India. Beyond commentary, Sidhu has appeared as a judge on shows like The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, and as a guest on programs like Comedy Nights with Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show, showcasing his versatility beyond the cricketing world.
