Sunrisers Hyderabad’s hopes of qualifying for the playoffs were ruined after a rain-affected match resulted in a washout. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, gained a crucial point, which gives them a chance to finish in the top two.

Battling to make their way to the playoffs, SRH put on an impressive bowling show by limiting DC to 133/7. Putting an early stop to DC’s innings gave them a chance of securing a win.

However, the weather had other plans. Rain poured down after the first innings in Hyderabad and stayed on for a while, resulting in a washout. The no-result outcome made Sunrisers Hyderabad join Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals as the third team to be eliminated from the playoffs race.

DC vs SRH

Karun Nair opened for DC along with Faf du Plessis, making them the sixth different pair to open for the team. However, Nair fell for a golden duck, and Du Plessis did not last much longer either. Delhi’s batting order failed to deliver, except for Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma, both scoring 41 runs off 36 and 26 deliveries, respectively.

Sunrisers Hyderabad did not face a single ball as it rained for more than an hour, which did not give the ground staff enough time to get the ground ready. Due to this, both teams had to share the points. The no-result outcome gave some breathing room to DC, while kicking SRH out of contention.

Playoffs Contention Race

The DC-SRH result has put other teams in perspective about their chance of making it to the playoffs. It has put Lucknow Super Giants in a must-win situation for their last 3 games, as 14 points will not be sufficient for qualification.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru is currently leading the points table with 16 points from 11 matches, followed by Punjab Kings with 15 points. Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans are tied with 14 points, while Lucknow Super Giants is at fifth with 13 points.
