The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the prize money for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. The total prize pool is a record-breaking USD 5.76 million (approximately ₹49.27 crore), more than double the amount given in the previous two editions.
The final will be held at Lord’s Cricket Ground from June 11 to June 15, 2025. The winning team—either Australia or South Africa—will receive USD 3.6 million. This is a huge increase from the USD 1.6 million awarded in the 2021 and 2023 finals.
The runners-up will earn USD 2.16 million, up from USD 800,000 in the last editions. These changes show the ICC’s commitment to promoting Test cricket and rewarding top performers.
Although India did not reach the final this time, they finished third in the standings. This performance earned them USD 1.44 million (around ₹12.31 crore). India had played well during the cycle but lost their chance to qualify after losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1 to Australia.
South Africa was the first team to reach the final after strong series wins over Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Bangladesh. They also drew a home series against India.
Australia joined them in the final after their series win over India and a consistent run throughout the cycle.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah praised the third edition of the WTC. He said, “The finalists were decided only towards the end, which shows how exciting this cycle was. The competition highlighted excellent performances from players across teams. The final at Lord’s will be a celebration of Test cricket.”
Fans across the world are now eagerly waiting for the final between Australia and South Africa. With record prize money and high stakes, it promises to be a thrilling five-day contest at the home of cricket.
