The United Arab Emirates has included Ethan D’Souza and Matiullah Khan in their squad for a two-match series against Bangladesh. Muhammad Waseem is set to captain the team in Sharjah later this week.
Ethan D’Souza and Matiullah Khan are set to play in Sharjah in the coming days. Both Ethan and Matiullah made their debut in international cricket for the UAE in 2023. Ethan is a 19-year-old left-hand batter who has played seven games in the ILT20, and Matiullah is a medium pacer.
While on the leadership front, UEA has reappointed Muhammad Waseem as captain for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. The two matches will be played on May 17 and 19.
This series will mark Waseem’s return to leadership after stepping down from the T20I captaincy in October 2024. He left the role to focus on his ODI batting. “I have decided to step down as captain to concentrate on my batting in the ODI format,” Waseem had said at the time.
The return announcement came ahead of the UAE’s first T20I series in 2025. In December 2024, they won the Gulf T20 Championship by defeating Kuwait in the final.
The Emirati opener previously led the national team in 26 T20Is and is the highest run-scorer for the team. With an average of 40 and a strike rate of 154.69, he has accumulated 1977 runs.
Wasee made his international debut in October 2021. Since then, he has been the leading batter of the team. He is already the third-highest run-scorer in One Day Internationals.
