Arshdeep Singh produced a magical performance in Dharamsala on Sunday. He bowled four overs, took three wickets, and gave away only 16 runs. His bowling helped Punjab Kings beat Lucknow Super Giants by 37 runs in their IPL 2025 clash.
Punjab Kings batted first and put up a strong total. Then came Arshdeep. He bowled with accuracy and control. The Lucknow batters had no answers. With this performance, Arshdeep now has 16 wickets in the tournament. He is the third-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2025.
After the game, Arshdeep called his childhood coach for feedback.
“Arsh asked me, ‘How was my bowling?’” said his coach, Jaswant Rai, to The Times of India. “I burst into laughter. I told him, ‘Arsh, you have elevated your game so much that I can’t coach you anymore.’”
Rai praised Arshdeep’s growth. He said the pacer has become smarter with experience.
“There was juice in the surface. Three years ago, Arsh would have bowled a fuller length. But now, he knows the value of the good length,” Rai explained. “He bowled the 6-metre length and showed great maturity.”
Rai believes Arshdeep is now ready for red-ball cricket.
“He is ripe now. He should get a chance in the Tests,” he said. “India needs variety in the pace attack. He brings balance.”
India will tour England soon for a five-match Test series. With senior pacers like Mohammed Shami injured and Jasprit Bumrah being rested often, Arshdeep’s chances look bright. His left-arm seam can be vital in English conditions.
In white-ball cricket, Arshdeep has already made his mark. He is India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is with 99 wickets. He also impressed in ODIs and domestic tournaments.
If selected, Arshdeep could be the first left-arm pacer to play Tests regularly for India since Zaheer Khan.
“I am very proud of him,” Rai added. “He is ready to take the next big step.”
