Former English bowler Darren Gough discussed the potential benefits and setbacks England could face in the next couple of months. The England cricket team is set to face India and Australia later this year.
England started their summer Test schedule with a dominant win, defeating Zimbabwe by an innings and 45 runs. They played a one-off Test at Trent Bridge last week.
The England cricket team will play three ODIs and three T20Is against the West Indies. Then they will shift their focus to the high-stakes five-Test series against India, commencing June 20 at Headingley.
With the recent Test retirements of veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Gough believes that England will be the “favourites”.
“We should win the ODIs against the West Indies. But then there is the India series. That is going to be the test of the England side. India are missing Sharma and Kohli, so England will be the favourites,” Gough told Sky Sports.
The former fast bowler also explained the rewards or consequences England could face based on how they perform. India and Australia are two current cricketing giants, and England will be judged based on how they play against them.
“If England beats India and Australia, then you could actually say this team is the best in the world. If England loses against India and Australia, you could say that it has been all about in the last three or four years. There is a lot of pressure on this England team to perform,” he added. (ANI)
England will face India in the five-match Test series from June 20 in Leeds. The series will end in early August, with the last Test starting on July 31 in London.
