Bethell’s Explosive 82 Powers Team in 1st ODI Against West Indies

England’s rising star Jacob Bethell impressed everyone during England’s massive win on Thursday. England is currently playing against the West Indies for their three one-day international series.

England posted a mammoth total of 400/8 in the first ODI against the Windies in Edgbaston on May 29. Jacob Bethell led the innings with his stunning 82 off 53 balls. This is now England’s second highest score at the venue.

Bethell Shines with Explosive 53-Ball Knock

Bethell’s batting was a combination of strategic play and aggressive shots. The 21-year-old hit 8 boundaries and 5 sixes in his 53 ball knock. He came to bat when England were 221/4.

He shared a 66-run partnership with Jos Buttler, and added another 98 runs with Will Jacks. Bethell reached the 50 run mark in the 42nd over. He then fell victim to Jayden Seales (4/84).

In the 10 ODIs he has played so far, Bethell has scored 300 runs at an average of 37.50. He registered his 3rd half-century of his career on Thursday. Also,this was his first ODI fifty on home soil.

Dominant Win for the Three Lions

England defeated WI by a huge margin of 238 runs. After the match, captain Harry Brook praised his side for their outstanding performance. He hailed Bethell’s stunning batting and said, “He batted beautifully there.”

“When one of us gets going, most of the time it’s hard to stop us and he showed that. He couldn’t go on and get three figures but it was a match-winning innings and he’s going to be some player.”

“He’s a confident lad, I don’t think he needs too much more bigging up, he knows he’s a good player and we all know he’s an exceptional player. He’s going to have a very long England career if he keeps on batting the way he does. He brings so much to a side (because) he can bowl and field as well.”
