Babar Azam's Hilarious Shoe Incident Adds Comedy in Warm-up

In a light-hearted moment during Pakistan’s warm-up match against New Zealand for the ODI World Cup 2023, Babar Azam, the Pakistan captain, added a touch of humour to the game. While at the crease, Babar encountered an amusing incident that left both players and spectators in splits.

The Unconventional Intervention

As Babar Azam faced a delivery from one of the spinners, the ball took an unexpected path, rolling back towards the stumps. Reacting quickly, Babar attempted an unconventional intervention by gently using his shoe to stop the ball’s progress. However, to everyone’s amusement, the ball continued to roll despite Babar’s efforts.

The Pakistan captain maintained his focus on the rolling ball, tracking it intently until it reached the wicketkeeper, Tom Latham. The amusing incident shared between the two players added a lighthearted touch to the match and showcased the camaraderie in the world of cricket.

Babar’s Stellar Contribution

Despite the comedic interruption, Babar Azam played a stellar innings, demonstrating his prowess with the bat. He compiled a brilliant knock of 80 runs from 84 balls, including eight fours and two sixes. His innings played a pivotal role in stabilizing Pakistan’s innings after the early departures of the openers.

Babar’s impressive innings eventually came to an end when Daryl Mitchell took a spectacular catch to dismiss the Pakistan captain. A miscued slog sweep on the fourth ball of the 30th over sent the ball soaring towards long-on, where Mitchell made a sensational diving catch to secure the wicket.

Despite the humorous incident and Babar’s dismissal, Pakistan managed to post a competitive total of 345/5 in their allotted 50 overs. Mohammad Rizwan top-scored with an impressive knock of 103 off 94 balls, while Saud Shakeel contributed with a counter-attacking 75 off 53 balls towards the end of the innings.
