Alex Hales Bids Farewell to International Cricket, Will Continue Playing Franchise Cricket 

English cricket fans received both nostalgic and heartfelt news as Alex Hales, the dynamic batter, announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. In a poignant post on his Instagram account, the 34-year old expressed his gratitude and reflected on his remarkable journey representing his country on 156 occasions across all three formats. 

Hales shares a heartfelt note 

“It has been an absolute privilege to have represented my country,” Hales began his emotional note. “Throughout my time in an England shirt, I’ve experienced some of the highest highs as well as some of the lowest lows. It’s been an incredible journey, and I feel very content that my last game for England was winning a World Cup final.” 

Indeed, Hales played a pivotal role in England’s triumphant T20 World Cup campaign in 2022, contributing a breathtaking 86 not out in the semi-final against India, steering the English side to a resounding victory. His aggressive and fearless approach to limited-overs cricket earned him admiration and accolades, making him a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.  

The talented batter represented his nation in 11 Tests, 70 ODIs, and 75 T20 internationals, amassing impressive runs of 573, 2419, and 2074 respectively. While his prowess shone brightly in limited-overs cricket, Hales faced the challenge of securing a permanent spot in the team, with the rise of fellow opening batters Jason Roy, Jos Buttler, and Jonny Bairstow. 

Despite not seeing as many opportunities in Test cricket, Hales’ legacy was etched in the annals of England’s cricket history through his stunning performances in ODIs and T20s.
