AB de Villiers Slams Critics After Kohli’s Heroics: ‘Eat That!

AB de Villiers, former RCB player, has hit back at critics for questioning Virat Kohli’s strike rate. He also dug out Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag’s old remarks on Kohli.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s former star AB de Villiers has brutally fired back at journalists who questioned Kohli’s strike rate amid the ongoing IPL season. His comments came after RCB’s match against CSK, where Virat slammed 62 runs off 33 balls on May 3.

De Villiers Defends Kohli

Last year, during the IPL, Kohli was immensely criticised regarding his strike rate in T20 cricket. Sehwag had criticised him for scoring the slowest joint century (113 runs in 67 balls) in IPL history. He pointed out Kohli’s mistake and said that his strike rate should have improved after the half-century mark.

Gavaskar has also, on multiple occasions, commented on Virat’s strike rate.

AB de Villiers posted a video on Instagram, where he shared the cutouts of Sehwag and Gavaskar’s remarks to lash out at critics. He wrote below the video:

“Virat is always there. He is Mr. Safety for RCB. When he is there, you don’t have to fear. Never fear when Virat is near. That is the story. Nothing has ever changed, and what I want to tell all of you media people, I haven’t forgotten. I have the brain of an elephant. To all my journalist friends out there, I love you guys. But remember when you said Virat bats too slow, right? Virat is there batting at almost a 200 strike rate last night. Eat that,” he said.

Virat Kohli is yet again leading the Orange Cap race with 505 runs in 11 innings, with an impressive strike rate of 143. With his magnificent form, he has played an indispensable role in RCB’s campaign.
