The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), known for their strong squad compositions and consistent performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL), are gearing up for the IPL 2024 season. As they aim to overcome their struggles in the Eliminator stage, the franchise is considering strategic changes to enhance their team’s overall performance. This article focuses on three players, Jaydev Unadkat, Avesh Khan, and Deepak Hooda, who LSG might release ahead of the 2024 auction.
Jaydev Unadkat, the left-arm pacer, had a disappointing stint with LSG in the previous season. Featuring in only three matches, Unadkat failed to secure any wickets and struggled to contain runs, with an economy rate of 11.50. Given his underwhelming performance, it is highly likely that LSG will opt to release him back into the auction pool.
Unadkat’s lack of impact, coupled with the availability of other talented pacers within the team, makes his retention questionable. LSG would benefit from exploring fresh options in the fast-bowling department to strengthen their bowling attack and provide more depth to their squad.
LSG’s surprising acquisition of Avesh Khan for a significant sum in 2022 raised expectations, but the pacer has struggled with consistency in conceding too many runs. While Avesh possesses the ability to take wickets, his tendency to leak runs on occasions has been a concern.
With the presence of other skilled Indian pacers within the team, LSG might consider parting ways with Avesh ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Releasing him would not only free up resources but also provide an opportunity to invest in a bowler who can maintain a better balance between wicket-taking and economy rate.
Deepak Hooda endured a dismal IPL 2023 season, putting up one of the poorest performances by any batter in the tournament’s history. Despite being given numerous opportunities, Hooda struggled to find form, with his batting average falling below 10. In the crucial match against Mumbai Indians (MI), he was involved in three run-outs, further highlighting his lack of contribution when it mattered the most.
Considering these circumstances, it is highly probable that LSG will decide to release Hooda from their squad before the IPL 2024 auction. The franchise would benefit from seeking a more reliable middle-order batsman who can provide stability and consistent performances under pressure.
Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are evaluating their squad composition and making strategic changes to address their shortcomings in the previous seasons. Jaydev Unadkat’s lack of impact, Avesh Khan’s inconsistency in conceding runs, and Deepak Hooda’s poor batting performances make them prime candidates for release.
