Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody expressed his thoughts on MS Dhoni’s future in the Indian Premier League. He stated that Dhoni needs to be back at CSK, but not as a player.
Tom Moody believes that Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni will most likely not play in the 2026 IPL season. The former Indian captain is facing criticism after CSK’s disappointing performance this season. The five-time champions were the first to be eliminated from the playoff race.
Moody, who has coached Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, believes MS Dhoni won’t play in the next IPL, but says the final decision is up to Dhoni.
“I’d be very surprised if we see him back as a player. I think he definitely needs to be back in that CSK camp, but as a player, I think it is probably unlikely. But again, that is a decision that only he can make. At the end of the day, it only gets harder, the older you get, particularly when you are not playing all year round and earmarking two months of the year for the IPL,” Moody said.
Dhoni also addressed his future in the league, saying that he would have to work and determine if his body could handle the pressure.
“A lot of them (crowd) don’t know when it is going to be my last time, so they want to come and see me play. There is no escaping the fact that I am in the last phase of my career. After this IPL gets over, I have to work hard for another 6-8 months to see if my body can take this pressure,” Dhoni said at the post-match presentation.
Chennai Super Kings struggled this IPL season, managing only three wins from 13 matches. They are placed at the bottom of the points table. They are set to play their last league game against the Gujarat Titans on May 25.
