Rishabh Pant has struggled badly in IPL 2025. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain has scored only 135 runs in 12 matches. His poor form is one of the biggest reasons LSG failed to reach the playoffs. On Monday, LSG lost to SunRisers Hyderabad by six wickets at the Ekana Stadium. That defeat knocked them out of the tournament.
Pant was bought for ₹27 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. The team expected big performances from him. Instead, he delivered one of his worst seasons. His average is just 12.27, and his strike rate is only 100. He scored just one fifty, and that too in a losing cause against Chennai Super Kings.
In most matches, Pant failed to make an impact. His scores read: 0, 15, 2, 2, 21, 63, 3, 0, 4, 18, and 7. He got out for single-digit scores seven times. Against SunRisers Hyderabad, he made only 7 runs from 6 balls. His dismissal added pressure on LSG’s weak batting lineup.
Former India batter Aakash Chopra feels Pant must rethink his approach to T20 cricket. Speaking on JioStar, Chopra said, “He wanted to make this season count. He was with a new team and had a point to prove. Sadly, nothing worked for him.”
Chopra believes tough times teach more than success. “Success teaches a little, but failure changes your mindset forever. Pant must be thinking deeply about what went wrong,” he added.
Chopra also said Pant must decide how he wants to play T20 cricket. “Maybe he needs to follow a set template. Or maybe he needs to learn to be more patient. Everyone faces a rough patch. The key is to learn and bounce back.”
Pant is not a regular in India’s T20I squad. IPL 2025 was his chance to impress selectors before the 2026 T20 World Cup. But he failed. Now, his spot in the national team looks uncertain.
Chopra summed it up perfectly: “This season was a nightmare. But the good thing about nightmares is—they end. And you wake up.”
