Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta has slammed the third umpire in the Indian Premier League 2025. She stated that such mistakes are unacceptable in a high-profile tournament.
Bollywood actress and PBKS co-owner Preity Zinta expressed her disappointment with the third umpire’s decision on Saturday. After her team got robbed of a six against Delhi Capitals, she questioned the umpiring standards in the league.
During the 15th over of the first innings, bowled by Mohit Sharma, Shashank Singh hit a six on the last ball. Karun Nair, placed at the boundary, tried to catch the ball as it was going for a six. But, he felt his leg might have touched the rope while holding the ball, so he signalled six toward the pitch himself.
To clear the decision, the call was referred to the third umpire Chris Gaffaney. He did not find any evidence of Nair’s foot touching the boundary. As a result, the Punjab Kings were awarded a single run.
After the match, Preity Zinta took to her social media to express her displeasure at the decision. She feels that with the amount of technology available, such mistakes are unacceptable.
“In a such a high-profile tournament with so much technology at the Third Umpire’s disposal, such mistakes are unacceptable & simply shouldn’t happen. I spoke to Karun after the game & he confirmed it was DEFINITELY a 6! I rest my case! #PBKSvsDC #IPL2025,” Preity Zinta wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
PBKS put up a big score of 206/8 in the 20 overs. However, it was not enough to stop Delhi as they chased down the target in 19.3 overs.
As a result, Punjab Kings missed their chance of getting to the top of the points table. They are currently placed second with 17 points from 13 matches. They need to win their next fixture against the Mumbai Indians to seal their place in the top two.
