As Chennai Super Kings (CSK) prepare to play their final match of IPL 2025 against Gujarat Titans (GT), all eyes remain on MS Dhoni and his future in the tournament. With CSK sitting at the bottom of the table, fans and pundits are eager to know whether the 43-year-old legend will continue next season.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, CSK assistant coach Sridharan Sriram admitted that even he is unsure about Dhoni’s plans. “Not as much as I know. Really don’t know what is going to happen,” Sriram said. He added that the team management, including head coach Stephen Fleming, Dhoni, and current captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, are aligned on the franchise’s roadmap.
Sriram emphasized the clarity within the leadership group despite a disappointing season. “They’ve got a clear idea of what went wrong and what needs to be done. So I think the road ahead is quite clear, which I think is a real positive,” he added.
CSK, five-time IPL champions, have had one of their poorest seasons and are out of playoff contention. Reflecting on their performance, Sriram said, “Everybody knows the season has not gone the way we would have wanted it to be. It’s unfair to put a finger on any one specific thing.”
He pointed out that it was not just about the middle order or bowling, but the overall execution throughout the season that let them down.
Earlier this season, MS Dhoni had stated that he would assess his fitness and performance over the next eight months before deciding whether to return in IPL 2026. His presence on the field continues to inspire millions, but the question of “Will this be Dhoni’s last IPL?” still looms large.
As CSK close their campaign against GT, fans will be hoping to see one last vintage Dhoni knock—just in case this truly is the end.
