Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday at his official residence. The meeting took place at a time when rumours about Shami’s future in cricket are making headlines.
Recently, several media reports claimed that Shami might retire from Test cricket. They also said his selection for India’s upcoming tour of England would depend on whether he can bowl long spells.
Shami did not stay silent. He posted a screenshot of one such report on Instagram and wrote a strong message. He said:
“Very well done. Also, start counting the days left to say ‘adieu’ to your job, then see ours later. People like you have ruined our future. Try saying nice things sometimes, too. Today’s worst story, sorry.”
This post clearly showed that Shami is angry and disappointed with the false reports.
Shami has had a tough season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He played for Sunrisers Hyderabad but took only six wickets in nine matches. His bowling average was 56.16, which is quite high. Due to poor performance, his team dropped him from the playing XI.
Shami also missed many international matches due to injury. He last played a Test match for India in the World Test Championship final against Australia in 2023. After that, he went through a long injury break.
Shami returned to domestic cricket and played in the Ranji Trophy for Bengal. He performed well and took seven wickets against Madhya Pradesh. Many fans expected him to return for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, but he was not selected.
Now, reports suggest that he may or may not be part of the England Test tour, which starts on June 20, 2025. Some even say he could retire soon, like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who recently stepped away from Test cricket.
Mohammed Shami has played 64 Test matches for India. He has taken 229 wickets at an average of 27.1. He has also taken six five-wicket hauls in Tests. He remains one of India’s most experienced fast bowlers.
With key players like Kohli, Rohit, and Ashwin already retired from Tests, India needs experienced players like Shami. Whether he gets selected for the England tour will depend on his fitness and the selectors’ decision.
Fans are hoping to see Shami back in action soon — silencing the rumours with his bowling, not his words.
