Mumbai Indians co-owner Akash Ambani and PBKS’s skipper Shreyas Iyer’s interaction on Monday has gone viral on the internet. The two were seen chatting at the boundary line during the PBKS vs MI fixture on May 26.
After qualifying for the playoffs, the Punjab Kings have now become the first team to secure a spot in the top two. They defeated the Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday and went to the top of the table.
While PBKS’s win over MI sparked buzz on social media, another incident during the match caught more attention. The incident took place during the 18th over of the first innings. Suryakumar Yadav was approaching his fifty when Iyer was spotted leaning over the advertisement board to keep talking to Ambani.
The details of their conversation remain unknown, but social media users wasted no time in sharing funny captions on the viral moment.
Both Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians had already qualified for the playoffs before the match in Jaipur on Monday. However, the fixture was a crucial one as the winner was guaranteed a top-two finish in the table. This provided the winner with two chances to reach the final.
Mumbai, having to bat first, posted a target of 185 runs for PBKS to chase. Despite a slow start in the powerplay, Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis’s 109-run partnership helped them chase in just 18.3 overs. Arya’s 62 off 35 and Inglis’ 73 off 42 won them the game.
Punjab Kings will travel back to their home ground in Mullanpur for Qualifier 1. They will face either the Royal Challengers Bengaluru or the Lucknow Super Giants on May 29.
