Hardik Pandya, Mumbai Indians’ captain, displayed immense courage when he showed up to play with a serious injury above his eye. He played through a severe injury and took his team to the top of the points table with a huge win against RR.
Before the match on Friday in Jaipur, Hardik suffered an injury during a practice session. While playing a sweep shot, he got hit by the ball just above his eye, a blow as severe as requiring seven stitches. Even with such a major discomfort, Pandya decided to take part in the match wearing special protective glasses, showcasing resilience on his part.
During the toss, Pandya was seen wearing a bandage covering his eye with protective glasses. However, this did not stop the MI all-rounder from putting on an exceptional performance. Coming to bat at No.4, he scored 48 runs off just 23 balls, including six impressive boundaries and one six, allowing MI to compile a total of 217.
Pandya’s contribution did not end with the bat. He contributed with the ball too, bowling a neat over and taking the wicket of RR’s Shubham Dubey for just 2 runs. His performance helped MI win with a huge difference of 100 runs, increasing their NRR and pushing them to the top of the points table.
Pandya was accompanied by his teammate Suryakumar Yadav in taking MI’s innings further and setting a target of 218 for RR to chase. Surya also scored 48 runs in 23 balls, matching his captain. Together, they piled 97 runs in just 44 balls.
Rajasthan Royals, in response, collapsed at just 117 under pressure from MI’s bowlers. MI bowled them out in 16.1 overs and won by 100 runs.
