The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced strict guidelines for players ahead of the T20I series against England. These rules aim to maintain discipline and strengthen team unity. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has promptly adapted, restricting players’ personal travel before the opening match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on January 22.
CAB President Snehasish Ganguly confirmed the new measures. He stated, “In keeping with the BCCI’s 10-point guidelines, we haven’t arranged separate transport for any players. Only a team bus has been provided. Players are expected to travel with the team for all matches and practice sessions.”
The BCCI’s updated policies extend beyond travel. Personal photo shoots during the series have been limited, and family stays on international tours have been curtailed. These changes emphasize professionalism and holistic cricket development at all levels.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar supported the move, saying, “These aren’t punishments. Every team has rules. Players are aware of what’s expected of them.”
The board also encourages players to participate in domestic cricket during breaks from international duty. Top stars like Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja have already committed to upcoming Ranji Trophy games. Meanwhile, injured players Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will skip the tournament as they focus on recovery.
Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami is set to make his T20I return after 14 months. Shami, who recently underwent leg surgery, has worked tirelessly to regain full fitness. He was spotted bowling for nearly two hours at Eden Gardens, signaling his readiness.
Gautam Gambhir, the team’s head coach, also had a lengthy discussion with Hardik Pandya regarding vice-captaincy. Although the selection panel has chosen Axar Patel as vice-captain, Gambhir reportedly expressed his preference for Hardik to assume the role alongside skipper Suryakumar Yadav.
The head coach also had a private chat with Sanju Samson, fueling speculation about his future role in the team. Reports suggest Gambhir favors Samson as wicketkeeper over Rishabh Pant for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
The first practice session at Eden Gardens was packed with activity. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak oversaw the drills alongside Gambhir and former South African pacer Morne Morkel. Shami’s performance caught everyone’s attention as he worked on fine-tuning his rhythm.
