Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka’s reaction to Rishabh Pant’s dismissal on Monday went viral on social media. He was seen leaving the stadium balcony in vexation after Pant got dismissed for a catch.
The brief IPL break did not help Rishabh Pant, as his poor form continued with the Indian Premier League’s resumption. The Lucknow Super Giants skipper put on another flop show against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday.
Pant was dismissed for just 7 from 6 balls in a must-win situation for Lucknow. Eshan Malinga deceived Pant by bowling a slow yorker. Pant hit the ball, sending the ball directly to Eshan, who took a tricky catch and sent Pant back to the dugout. It was another failure for Pant, who was signed by LSG for INR 27 crore.
In 12 matches, he has managed to score only 128 runs at a low strike rate of 99.22.
LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka seemed irritated by Pant’s cheap dismissal and was seen leaving the stadium balcony. After this incident went viral, Pant also got trolled for his unsatisfying performance this season.
Pant has had an underwhelming season this year in IPL. He currently holds the lowest strike rate amongst batters who have faced at least 100 balls this season.
The last six months have been specifically tough for Pants. He failed to seal his place in India’s white ball squad and also faced scrutiny for his test cricket performances.
Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins elected to ball first after winning the toss on Monday.
As for Pant, after losing the toss, he said that the team doesn’t want to put players under extreme pressure.
“We don’t mind, we have got to do well. We are looking at one match at a time and not putting undue pressure on ourselves. I feel that as a team, we have regrouped well, and we are in a good space as a team. We have only one change, Will O’Rourke is making his debut,” Pant said at the toss.
