Former Team India chief selector MSK Prasad has taken on a new role as a strategic consultant for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the IPL 2024. The franchise officially announced this development on their Twitter handle and elaborated on Prasad’s responsibilities with the team.
MSK Prasad will be Director of Talent Search and Academics at RPSG Sports, focusing on our grassroots and scouting programs.
In his role with the Super Giants, MSK Prasad will provide comprehensive guidance across crucial domains, including Head of Talent Search, talent development, and the academy business. The LSG franchise hopes that Prasad’s involvement will contribute to their quest for their maiden IPL title.
MSK Prasad, who started his tenure as Team India’s chief selector in 2016, played a key role in selecting squads for major ICC events, including the 2019 World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy. He concluded his tenure as chief selector in March 2020.
During the IPL 2023 season, the Lucknow Super Giants made it to the playoffs for the second consecutive time. However, their journey was cut short with a crushing 81-run loss to the Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier match. The team faced challenges as their regular captain, KL Rahul, sustained a thigh injury mid-season, forcing Krunal Pandya to take on the captaincy role. Despite this setback, LSG managed to secure eight wins out of 14 matches, with one match ending as a no-result due to rain.
In addition to MSK Prasad’s appointment, the Super Giants had previously announced Justin Langer as their new head coach, replacing Andy Flower, and retained Morne Morkel as their bowling coach.
The Lucknow Super Giants will be looking to build on their past performances and make a strong bid for the IPL title in 2024 with the support of their newly appointed strategic consultant, MSK Prasad.
