In a remarkable display of resilience and skill, the Indian cricket team bounced back from their defeat in Hyderabad to clinch a convincing victory in the Vizag Test against England. The win was a collective effort, with standout performances from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jasprit Bumrah playing pivotal roles in India’s triumph.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s exceptional batting prowess was on full display in the first innings, where he notched up a double century, standing out amidst a lineup where the next best score was 34. His stellar innings provided India with a solid foundation, setting the stage for their dominance in the match.

However, it was Jasprit Bumrah who truly stole the show with his extraordinary bowling performance. Despite the pitch offering little assistance, Bumrah produced a mesmerizing spell on the second afternoon, showcasing his mastery of reverse swing. His figures of 6/45 in the first innings were instrumental in securing a substantial lead for India.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal’s exceptional batting prowess was on full display in the first innings,” said Rohit Sharma at the post-match presentation, “where he notched up a double century, standing out amidst a lineup where the next best score was 34. His figures of 6/45 in the first innings were instrumental in securing a substantial lead for India.”

“Bumrah continued to shine in the second innings,” Rohit added, “claiming three crucial wickets that effectively ended England’s resistance. His ability to consistently deliver under pressure has established him as a key player for the Indian team.”

Ravichandran Ashwin also made significant contributions with the ball, displaying his skill and guile to pick up three wickets in the match. His performance in Vizag leaves him just one wicket away from the milestone of 500 Test wickets, a testament to his exceptional career.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Indian captain Rohit Sharma lauded the team’s overall performance, emphasizing the significance of the victory in challenging conditions. “He is a champion player for us (Bumrah),” Rohit remarked. “When you win a game like that, you have to look at the overall performance as well. We were good with the bat. You know winning a Test in these conditions is not easy.”

Rohit also praised Bumrah’s understanding of his game and expressed confidence in his continued success. “He looks like a good player, understands his game really well,” Rohit said. “Long way to go for him, has got a lot to offer for our team. Hope he stays humble.”

Acknowledging the team’s batting depth, Rohit highlighted the need for young players to convert starts into big scores, emphasizing the importance of building their confidence. “Lot of the batters got starts but couldn’t get big score,” Rohit noted. “But I understand they’re young and new to the game. Important for us to give them confidence.”

Rohit also commended the young squad for their resilience against a formidable opponent like England, acknowledging that they are still in the learning phase and need time to reach their full potential.

“Last couple of years England have been playing good cricket. Knew it wasn’t going to be an easy series. Three more to go. We’ll keep our check on it and make sure we do most things right,” Rohit added.

He emphasized the team’s focus on playing freely without pressure and expressed determination to maintain their performance in the remaining three matches of the series.

“It’ll take some time to be absolutely spot on. Want them to play freely without any pressure”, he concluded.
