Dishant Yagnik, RR’s fielding coach, has come out to make a bold statement, showing his faith in the younger generation of cricketers. The RR coach said that they don’t buy superstars, they make them.

Despite failing to make it to the playoffs, after their huge 100-run defeat against MI, RR’s fielding coach Yagnik remains confident about the team’s future. He believes that backing young talent will help them progress as a team in the coming seasons.

RR Faces Criticism

Rajasthan Royals faced criticism for letting go of senior and prominent players like Jos Buttler and Trent Boult. Defending the team’s ideology, Yagnik said that they will focus on young talent and make them superstars.

Yagnik recognised the absence of Butler and Boult, but stressed the team’s plans to nurture young cricketers to make them successful.

We Don’t Buy Superstars: Dishant Yagnik

During the post-match press conference, Dishant Yagnik said that they don’t believe in buying established names. Instead, they intend to nurture young talent, like they have done in previous years. He added that many players were a little known before coming to Rajasthan, but became quite popular during their time with the team.

“There’s a great point in your question about star (players). Whenever a new player arrives, he is not a star, but he is made into one,” Yagnik stated at the post-match press conference. “Last year, the players we had were not stars when they entered the team, but they became stars, and now the players that we have got in the team, we will make them stars. We don’t buy superstars, we make superstars, and this is our tagline.”

The franchise has continued to help young cricketers become versatile, with the 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi being their latest recruit. While Suryavanshi slammed a 35-ball century against GT, he did not manage to continue with his streak against MI.

Despite this setback, Yagnik restated his faith in the youngsters. “Look at Vaibhav Suryavanshi, everyone was happy for him when he was batting (against Gujarat Titans during his 38-ball 101). The entire crowd was happy and in time to come, these guys will become stars, and we believe in that.”
