Ravichandran Ashwin Gears Up for India’s ODI Series with Local Game

Bengaluru, September 18, 2023 – In a clear display of dedication, Ravichandran Ashwin, the seasoned Indian spinner, has been actively preparing for his return to the Indian ODI squad. Ashwin, who was recently recalled to the squad for the upcoming three-match series against Australia, has been fine-tuning his skills and maintaining his form.

Ashwin’s rigorous preparations have seen him at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where he was seen practicing with the white ball. This commitment to his craft showcases his determination to make an impact in the limited-overs format.

What’s even more remarkable is Ashwin’s decision to participate in a 50-over match in Chennai. He is set to represent Take Solution MRPA in the VAP Trophy’s one-day league, which is currently taking place at the SSN College Ground. A Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) official commented, “He wants to spend some time on the ground, and a 50-over game will provide him with that opportunity. He recently visited the NCA for routine maintenance work on his body and to hone his skills under the guidance of spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule. He’s determined to prepare himself comprehensively for any and all challenges.”

Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, addressed concerns about Ashwin’s limited ODI appearances in recent years during a media conference. Sharma emphasized that Ashwin’s vast experience mitigates any worries about his match time. Ashwin last played an ODI in January 2022 against South Africa, amassing an impressive 151 wickets in 111 ODI innings.

The Indian team is scheduled to assemble in Chandigarh on September 20 in preparation for the first ODI against Australia, slated for September 22. Following his local match in Chennai, Ashwin will swiftly join the squad in Mohali, underlining his commitment to the team’s cause.
