IPL 2019: Let’s Rewind Mumbai Indians IPL journey

Mumbai Indians was perhaps the most popular team in the inaugural edition of the IPL. It was due to the sheer presence of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Initially, Tendulkar carried the team along and even after his retirement, the fan following hasn’t reduced. MI remains one of the most followed franchises in the league. Before the big event, IPL 2019 starts let’s rewind the Mumbai Indians’ IPL Journey from IPL 2008 – 18.

However, the name didn’t bring performances in the initial editions. They failed to make it to the playoffs in the first 2 seasons. In the next 2 editions, they secured a place in the top 3. However, the big turnaround happened in the 2013 edition. Rohit Sharma was handed over the captaincy of the side in the 6th season. He led MI to its first IPL title that year.

Since then, Mumbai Indians are a force to reckon with. They have retained the core of the side in the past few years. The likes of Rohit, Kieron Pollard, Pandya brothers, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga have been the consistent features in the line-up. The combination has done wonders for them as they have emerged as one of the strongest teams in the competition.

The Rohit Sharma-led side went on to win the league in 2015 and 2017 editions as well. The Mumbai-based franchise is only one of the 2 teams to win the league 3 times. The other team to achieve the landmark in Chennai Super Kings.
