In a high-stakes encounter that never fails to captivate the cricketing world, India’s dominance was on full display as they outclassed arch-rivals Pakistan in a World Cup showdown. Chasing a meagre total of 192, India sailed past the winning line in just 30.3 overs, with 7 wickets to spare.
A key protagonist in this thrilling contest was none other than Jasprit Bumrah, who, ultimately named the Player of the Match, played a pivotal role in India’s resounding victory. His exceptional performance helped India to seize the pole position in the World Cup points table. Bumrah, who snared two crucial wickets during the match, provided an intriguing post-match perspective on the game, offering insights into pitch analysis, his years of experience, and the art of reading the conditions.
He began by saying, “It felt good. Usually, you try to analyse the wicket as soon as possible. We realised the wicket is on the slower side, so we wanted to bowl hard lengths. We were trying to make it as difficult as possible.”
Bumrah, known for his ability to read pitches quickly, shed light on his approach, stating, “Just being aware, I guess. I used to ask a lot of questions when I was young, and that helps me now. Now I’m experienced. In my younger days, they (seniors) were used to being troubled by me sometimes (with questions), but it helps to read the wicket and try different options.”
Jasprit Bumrah then delved into the crucial moments of the match, highlighting his tactics, “On the slower ball to get rid of Rizwan, we were bowling in the middle overs and I saw Jaddu’s ball was turning, not too much but a little bit. I count my slower ball as a spinner’s slower ball, one of those days where it came off.”
Reflecting on the ball that dismissed Shadab, Bumrah mentioned, “Little phase where there was reverse swing, one of the occasions when the white ball was reverse swinging.” His ability to utilise reverse swing effectively further demonstrated his prowess as a world-class bowler.
