MS Dhoni was seen talking to the Chennai Super Kings CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, after losing out on the chance of getting into the playoffs. In the 49th tournament match held on April 30, CSK lost to PBKS by failing to chase a total of 194 runs. With this loss, CSK crashed out of the tournament.
Amid the rumours that the 2025 season will be Dhoni’s last, he was seen interacting with CSK’s CEO Viswanathan. Although speculators looked at the discussion with much seriousness, their interaction seemed to be friendly. They were all smiles while talking to each other.
Leading CSK in the first five matches, Ruturaj Gaikwad sustained an elbow injury, which ruled him out of the tournament. Dhoni, with his stellar performance as a captain in earlier years, returned as the captain of CSK, intending to win this year’s title. Still, he was unable to bring CSK up in the points table. The Super Kings remain at the bottom of the table with only 2 wins.
On Wednesday, after losing the toss against PBKS, Dhoni teased his fans when asked about his return next season. After the toss, presenter and former New Zealand cricketer Danny Morrison asked Dhoni about his future next season, to which he laughingly replied, “I don’t know I’m coming for the next game”, leaving fans guessing yet again.
Following CSK’s disqualification, there have been talks about Dhoni’s future in the IPL. Few former cricketers have given their opinions on the matter. Among them is the South African cricketer Shaun Pollock, who has said that he doesn’t see Dhoni coming back next year. Contrary to that, Australian cricketer Aaron Finch has backed him to return next season.
CSK still has four more matches to play in this tournament. MS Dhoni has proved to be a dedicated captain and a phenomenal cricketer throughout his cricketing career. In regard to his future next season, fans will have to patiently wait and see.
