Abishek Porel’s dismissal in DC’s clash against MI on Wednesday has sparked controversy across social media. The wicketkeeper-batter was dismissed through stumping in the fifth over.
Delhi Capitals’ batter Abishek Porel’s wicket has caused a debate on social media. The incident involving Porel’s controversial stumping went viral on the internet, with fans debating whether he was out or not.
Delhi Capitals, chasing 181 set by Mumbai, landed into trouble when they lost two wickets inside the first three overs. Faf du Plessis and KL Rahul went out for 6 and 11 respectively. DC were further shaken when Porel, one of their most consistent batters this season, was dismissed for a debatable stumping.
With the ball gripping and turning on the Wankhede pitch, MI looked to exploit the conditions against Porel. The Capitals were at 27 for 2 when Porel was tempted out of the crease in an attempt to counterattack. Wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton reacted speedily, collecting the ball and removing the bails in one motion.
The decision was referred to the third umpire, who took a bit longer to review the footage from multiple angles. The footage showed a split verdict. While some angles showed that Porel had lifted his foot before the bails were removed, others show that his foot was on the ground.
In such situations, normally, the advantage is given to the batter. However, after a long analysis, Porel was ruled out by the third umpire.
The decision sparked quick reactions. Fans and experts on social media argued about whether the dismissal was fair. Many people shared clips and screenshots, doubting the decision. However, one video was posted that showed the Ricckelton removed the bails while Porel’s foot was still in the air.
