The upcoming second season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is all set to begin in Bengaluru on February 23, with a match between last year’s finalists, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, scheduled to take place at the Chinnaswamy Stadium at 7:30 pm.
According to the schedule released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the second match will feature Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz. The final match of the tournament is scheduled for March 17, with an Eliminator game set to precede it on March 15, both to be held in Delhi.
As per the schedule, the tournament will follow a caravan model, with matches being played at only two venues: Bengaluru and Delhi. The Bengaluru leg will host 11 matches, with the remainder taking place in Delhi.
The Bengaluru leg will run until March 4, after which the tournament will move to Delhi, starting on March 5. Unlike the Indian Premier League (IPL), there will be no doubleheaders, and all matches will commence at 7:30 pm. However, certain teams may have to play back-to-back matches on consecutive days.
Originally planned as a home and away model like the IPL, logistical challenges led to the decision to hold the entire first season in Mumbai. The BCCI has decided to continue with the caravan model for the second season due to these challenges.
The Delhi leg will also begin with a match between last year’s finalists, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, and all matches in Delhi will be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
