Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma, known for his prowess on the field, has revealed his decision to stay away from social media in a recent interview. Despite being a prominent figure in the world of cricket, Sharma has chosen to disconnect from the virtual world, a decision he attributes to the distractions and time-wasting nature of social media.
In the interview, Sharma explained his rationale behind this choice. He mentioned that he hadn’t had Twitter or Instagram on his phone for the past nine months. Instead, his wife manages any commercial posts on his behalf. He sees social media as a distraction and believes it consumes valuable time and energy.
“I don’t run people’s lives, if people love it, they love it. Social media these days is fake. I saw someone on the team bus in the morning saying, ki dekha ki nahi, isne yeh bola, usne yeh bola. (Saw this? He said this, that). They discuss it,” Rohit said.
“You see my phone, you can check it, I don’t have Twitter or Instagram on my phone for the past nine months. If we have to do any commercial post, my wife handles it. These are distractions, they all are on the phone the whole day. It’s a waste of time and energy. So I have decided not to have it on my phone because if it’s there, I will watch it.”
Sharma acknowledged the prevalence of social media in the lives of the younger generation but emphasized that he doesn’t impose his views on others. He believes in letting people make their own choices regarding their online presence.
“It’s the time we live in. The new generation is more on reel, Instagram, different social media; they all are into it, he added.
“Rather than sulking in my room, I have to make sure that my captain, coach, selectors think that we need this guy; he will do something for the team. So I started to think on those lines. Many times, the reasons are something different. The team wants to go with some different combination and probably you don’t fit in that combination. I want to do things to ensure the captain should not ignore me … Being the captain now, I understand that I cannot please everyone.”

The decision to step away from social media aligns with Sharma’s philosophy of simplifying his life and focusing on what truly matters. He values genuine connections with friends and family and prefers face-to-face interactions over virtual ones.
Sharma’s candid admission about his social media detox reflects his commitment to maintaining a clear and focused mindset. As he prepares to lead the Indian cricket team in the upcoming World Cup, he hopes that his decision will help him stay grounded and focused on the task at hand.
In a world where social media plays a significant role in the lives of athletes and public figures, Rohit Sharma’s choice to disconnect serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing one’s mental well-being and staying true to oneself.
