Nepal Shatters Records in Asian Games T20I Match Against Mongolia

In an astonishing display of cricketing prowess, Nepal’s men’s cricket team made history during their Asian Games group match against Mongolia. This thrilling encounter marked the beginning of the men’s T20I tournament in Hangzhou, and what followed was nothing short of remarkable.

Record-Breaking Total: Nepal’s 314/3

Nepal’s batting lineup left spectators in awe as they posted an astounding score of 314/3 in just 20 overs, setting a new world record. This performance marked the first time any team breached the 300-run mark in the shortest format of the game, earning Nepal a well-deserved place in cricket history.

It’s worth noting that the International Cricket Council (ICC) had granted T20I status to the matches at the Asian Games, further elevating the significance of this achievement.

Record for Fastest Half Century Broken

The fireworks didn’t stop there. Dipendra Singh Airee, a rising star in Nepal’s cricketing landscape, broke Yuvraj Singh’s long-standing record for the fastest T20I half-century. Yuvraj’s record had stood firm since the 2007 World Cup when he reached his half-century in just 12 balls against England

However, Dipendra surpassed this milestone in breathtaking fashion, reaching his fifty in a mere nine deliveries. His explosive innings concluded with an unbeaten score of 52 off just 10 balls, with an astonishing 48 of those runs coming from towering sixes.

Kushal Malla’s Spectacular Century

If Dipendra’s feat left spectators spellbound, Kushal Malla had something even more extraordinary in store. Malla etched his name in the annals of cricket history by surpassing the likes of India’s Rohit Sharma and South Africa’s David Miller

He achieved the fastest T20I century, reaching the three-figure mark in a jaw-dropping 34 deliveries. Malla’s innings was a masterclass in power-hitting, featuring 8 fours and a staggering 12 sixes. When the dust settled, he remained unbeaten on a remarkable 137 off just 50 deliveries.

A Slow Start, a Spectacular Finish

Interestingly, Nepal’s innings in this historic match got off to a relatively slow start. Both openers struggled to find their rhythm, playing at a strike rate lower than 100. However, Kushal Malla seized the moment and provided the innings with a much-needed boost.

His breathtaking partnership with captain Rohit Paudel, who contributed a brisk 61 off 27 balls, saw Nepal dominate the proceedings with a formidable 193-run stand. Finally, Dipendra Singh Airee stepped in to give the innings a perfect finish, breaking a world record in the process.

Nepal’s performance in this Asian Games T20I opener is sure to be etched in cricketing history as a defining moment for the nation’s cricketing ambitions. As they continue their journey in the tournament, the world will be eagerly watching to see if they can maintain their exceptional form and add more records to their already impressive tally.
