Get MS Dhoni up the order: Steve Smith after Dhoni’s 37* vs DC

In a recent match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, CSK’s legendary cricketer MS Dhoni played a sparkling knock, scoring an unbeaten 37 runs off just 16 balls. Despite his efforts, CSK lost the match by 20 runs. Following Dhoni’s impressive performance, former Australian cricketer and current CSK player Steve Smith called for Dhoni to be promoted up the batting order.Steve Smith advocates for elevating MS Dhoni in the batting order following his unbeaten 37 against DC.

Smith’s suggestion came after Dhoni came in to bat at No. 8 with CSK chasing 192 for victory. Dhoni’s innings included 4 fours and 3 sixes, showcasing his ability to find the middle of the bat consistently. Smith noted that Dhoni’s timing and power were exceptional, especially compared to his teammate Ravindra Jadeja, who struggled to find form during the match.

“Let’s get him up the order. I think he did not miss the middle of the bat tonight. That was just incredible to witness. I think Jadeja, throughout the other end, was actually struggling to find the middle,” Smith told Star Sports.

“They bowled really well to him, but MS got there on strike. Obviously, in his first ball to the boundary and then from there, he just barely missed the middle of the bat. It was great to watch and I think the fans want to see him getting up the order and keep doing it more often,” Smith added.

Smith was particularly impressed by a shot Dhoni played off left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed, where he had to adjust his stance and hit the ball over cover. Smith highlighted that it was a rare shot from Dhoni and a joy to watch.

“I liked the one of Khaleel where he went wide and he had to stand across with his front foot to get to the ball and hit it over cover. I don’t think I’ve seen him do that a great deal. He usually sort of clears his front leg a little bit, that’s just beautiful to watch,” Smith remarked.
