In a significant development that has sent shockwaves through the cricketing world, eight individuals, including former Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain, have been charged with breaching the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) anti-corruption code during the 2021 edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 League. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has undertaken the action on behalf of the ECB, marking a significant step in the fight against corruption in the sport.
Nasir Hossain, a prominent figure in Bangladeshi cricket who represented his country in 19 Tests, 65 ODIs, and 31 T20Is, faces multiple charges, including Article 2.4.3, Article 2.4.4, and Article 2.4.6. These charges relate to his failure to disclose information about a mysterious gift, non-cooperation with DACO (Designated Anti-Corruption Official) investigations, and his inability to provide complete details regarding corrupt approaches made to him. Although Hossain hasn’t played international cricket since 2017, he remained active in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and captained the Dhaka franchise.
Krishan Kumar Chaudhary and Parag Sanghvi, co-owners of teams in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, have also been charged with Article 2.4.5, Article 2.4.6, and Article 2.4.7. These charges revolve around their lack of cooperation with DACO investigations and allegations of placing bets on various aspects of the league’s matches.
Additionally, Shadab Ahamed, a team manager, and other coaching staff members, including Sunny Dhillon (assistant coach) and Ashar Zaidi (batting coach), have been implicated in violating the anti-corruption code.
Furthermore, two domestic players, Saliya Saman and Rizwan Javed, have also been charged with breaches of the anti-corruption code.
These charges send a strong message that cricket’s governing bodies are committed to rooting out corruption in the sport and holding individuals accountable for their actions. The ICC and ECB have reiterated their commitment to maintaining the integrity of the game and protecting it from any form of wrongdoing.
As these individuals face the consequences of their alleged actions, cricket fans worldwide will hope that such measures contribute to the continued cleanliness and fairness of the sport they love.
