Samit Dravid, son of former Indian cricket captain and current head coach, Rahul Dravid, displayed his talent by scoring a commendable 87 runs for Karnataka in the Vinoo Mankad (U-19) Trophy pre-quarterfinal against Mumbai. The young cricketer’s impressive performance is a testament to his potential to follow in his father’s footsteps.

In an impressive turn of events, Samit Dravid celebrated his 18th birthday just before the prestigious Vinoo Mankad (U-19) Trophy. While he had previously showcased his cricketing skills in U-14 competitions, this tournament marked his maiden appearance in the U-19 age group.

Cricket in the blood of Draivds

Interestingly, cricket talent runs deep in the Dravid family. Rahul Dravid, the cricketing legend and former captain of the Indian cricket team, saw his younger son, Anvay Dravid, excel on the cricket pitch. Anvay even served as the captain of the Karnataka Under-14 team, following in the illustrious footsteps of his accomplished father.

Rahul Dravid himself had a remarkable cricketing journey. He represented Karnataka at the senior level and had a rich history in various age group categories, including U-15, U-17, and U-19. His Ranji Trophy debut for the state dated back to the 1991-92 season, showcasing his early promise and eventual rise to greatness in Indian cricket.

Despite his illustrious cricketing career, Rahul Dravid, now the head coach of the Indian cricket team, found himself occupied with coaching commitments during the ongoing World Cup against Australia. India has maintained an immaculate record in the 2023 World Cup, securing five resounding victories over Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. Despite a shaky start, with India at 2/3 in a 199-run chase, the team’s subsequent performances have been seamless, marking their dominance over formidable opponents in the competition.

Consequently, he was likely to miss witnessing his elder son’s performance in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. Nevertheless, cricket enthusiasts and fans eagerly awaited Samit Dravid’s arrival on the cricket field as he wielded his bat in the name of Karnataka, continuing the Dravid legacy in the sport.
