In a rain-affected second ODI between India and Australia, India secured a commanding win by 99 runs, thereby securing an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. India was instructed to bat first and managed to amass an imposing total of 399 runs, courtesy of impressive centuries by Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. KL Rahul, who captained the team for the first two matches, contributed with a rapid 52 off 38 deliveries, while Ishan Kishan added a brisk 31 runs from 18 balls. The standout performance came from Suryakumar Yadav, who scored a remarkable 72 runs off just 37 balls.
Following a second interruption due to rain, Australia was set a revised target of 317 runs to win within 33 overs. However, they faced difficulties in chasing down the target and ultimately were dismissed for 217 runs in 28.2 overs. India’s comprehensive victory underscored their batting prowess and ability to perform effectively in challenging circumstances, ultimately clinching the series with a dominant display. Shreyas Iyer was rightly adjudged as the man of the match for his brilliant hundred.

Shreyas Gill shared his thoughts on his performance, saying, “It was quite a rollercoaster ride, to be honest, and it feels fantastic. I had incredible support from my team-mates, friends, and family. While watching the matches on TV, I was eager to be out there and contribute to the team’s success. I’m truly grateful for believing in myself. Despite the ongoing pain and niggles, I was clear about my goals, and I’m really pleased that I could execute my plans perfectly today.”
Explaining his batting approach, he added, “When I walked in to bat, I kept it simple. I focused on getting my eyes set on the ball; that’s how I build confidence in myself. I’m quite flexible and ready to bat in any position, adapting to what the team requires. Virat Kohli is undoubtedly one of the greats, so there’s no intention of taking that number 3 spot from him. My goal is to keep scoring runs consistently.”
